L-5-MTHF Calcium Levomefolate

Introduction:

The calcium salt of L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate belongs to the folic acid family of vitamins (vitamin B9, folic acid), which is a coenzyme form of folic acid. 1-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate calcium (5-mthf) is a naturally occurring salt forming methyl form of folic acid. 5-mh, also known as L-methylfolate, is the most biologically active and functional form of folic acid and is more easily absorbed than regular folic acid.

Lack of folic acid can reduce the ability of cells to synthesize and repair DNA. Supplementing folic acid may be a more favorable method. Increasing folic acid can reduce homocysteine levels and support normal cell proliferation, vascular endothelial function, cardiovascular disease, nervous system function, especially during pregnancy. Supplementing 5-MTHF has been shown to reduce the risk of neural tube malformations and recurrence.
